I just turned 18 and want to purchase a rifle but im not 100% on what I want, I just started college too so funds are tight. Any suggestions?

It depends on what kind of shooting you like to do. Target...long range...or just blasting. THe Civilian marksmanship program has some good deals on M1 Garands. Every gun owner should have one.

It's worth a look.

if it is just for plinking get a .22 rifle. they are cheap, fun to shoot, and did i mention cheap.

You looking at a hunting style or assault weapon?
Semi or bolt action?
What are you wanting it for? - Hunting, target shooting, home defense, zombie gun?

Any kind of price range or caliber you want?

I'd recommend the Mosin Nagant rifles. I picked one up in excellent condition for $90, and you can buy a 440 round spam can for about $45. They're very reliable and simple to operate.
They also do a great job on 1/2 inch steel plating :)

I would rather semi over bolt but its not a huge deal, and I wanna keep it under 300 bucks if possible. Its gunna be used mostly for target shooting.

In that case I would recommend either a ruger 10/22 or maybe an old sks.
