I attended a yoga class at my gym this morning, partly out of boredom, but mostly because I need to gain flexibility in certain areas of my body. I am not an out of shape person, nor am I unflexable for the most part, I just wanted to try something new and see what came of it.
I am happy to report that after one hour of yoga instruction I have learned some valuble lessons. My experience pushed me to new physical limits, taught me that I am severely out of balance phyically and has given me insite as to what I will need to do in order to correct these issues and become more physically well-off. Bear in mind that I lift weights, run, sprint and play several sports recreationally and consider myself to be in better than average shape. I am not interested in the meditation and spiritual side of yoga, so much as the stretching, toning and balancing side of it.
After one hour:
I was sore everywhere
I was significantly more limber than I usual
I flirted with a HOT CSUS (college) girl that attends class every Monday
I worked up a sweat and was out of breath
All in all, I found it a very pleasant and humbling experience. Being that the classes are free with gym membership I plan on continuing my yoga training. I forsee that benefits gained through yoga becoming very substantial when applied to other facets of physical activity.
Yoga FTW!
